Students Taking Action Against Racism (STAAR)
STAAR is an important group at LSS that celebrates cultural diversity. We believe that by respecting and celebrating diverse cultures we can help eliminate racism.
We meet every Wednesday at noon in room 502 and everyone is welcome.
2007/2008 - This year our slogan is a "A School for a School" as our goal is to raise $17,000 to build a school in Nepal.
Our kick-off campaign "Nickels for Nepal" raised $1000.
Our current fundraiser is Light Up greeting cards. $3.00 each, 2 /$5 or 5/$10
Part of this project includes sending greeting cards to 7 other schools around the world. Our partners in iEARN are Belarus, Georgia,
Tajikstan, Trinidad, Brazil, England, Wisconsin, USA.
Watch us reach our goal on the STAAR bulletin board outside room 501.

In 2006/2007 STAAR planned the very successful LSS 30hr FAST
â–ºThe fast took place from 6:00am April 3rd to noon April 4th.
â–ºWe raised $2000.00 for orphans in Ethiopia who are suffering from HIV/AIDS
â–ºThank you to all of our supporters and donors-you made all of this possible.

May 28th, STAAR students delivered an anti-racism response training to grade 5 students at North Oyster Elementary school. STAAR students who participated did an excellent job in positive role modeling. They taught of diversity, multiculturalism, and anti-racism, and how these can be inforced.
Ladysmith Secondary School has also had a recent performance by WILDFIRE dance theatre. STAAR raised money, through donations, for a local-Jackie to bring orphans to her home; coming from zimbabwe, Africa.
